T. Bovo Pursues Justice for Mother of 17-Year-Old Killed in Shooting

A recent article published by the Denver Post reports that prosecutors have decided not to file charges against Levi Sisneros, a man who shot and killed a 17-year-old male during a marijuana burglary at a home in Adams County in September. Prosecutors state they cannot disprove that the shooter was acting in self-defense against the boy.
On September 1, Sisneros was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder in a shooting, which occurred near the intersection of 76th Avenue and Pecos Street. Alfredo Chavez suffered fatal injuries after being shot in the back.
According to Adams County District Attorney Dave Young, as the case proceeded, the court was able to investigate the scene and determine that there wasn’t a likelihood of providing this beyond a reasonable doubt.
According to investigators, the 17-year-old boy and three or four other individuals broke into Sisneros’ house to steal the marijuana he was legally growing. Noises woke Sisneros, and when he followed the burglars into the backyard, he shot Alfredo in the back after one of the individuals threw something at him.
The decision to not charge Sisneros was made after interviews with the other alleged burglars and a scene investigation were performed. According to Young, the other individuals involved in the incident gave consistent accounts of what happened before and up to the shooting.
Alfredo’s mother believes Sisneros should face charges since her son did not break into the home but was acting only as a lookout in the driveway. She has hired attorneys, including Attorney Todd Bovo of Bovo Law, LLC, to pursue a civil case against the shooter.
When asked about the case, Attorney Bovo stated, “We totally disagree with the DA’s decision […] I think this is going to be a concern for the public because what’s more important — our marijuana or our children? This kid did not need to die.”
Attorney Bovo, his legal team, and the mother of the 17-year-old boy hope to obtain justice for the loss of Alfredo Chavez.
