The Regional Transportation District (RTD) was created in 1969 by the Colorado General Assembly to develop, operate, and maintain a mass transportation system for the benefit of 2.7 million people in RTD’s District. RTD has 998 total buses. Of these 998, RTD owns and operates 572. The remaining 426 buses are leases to private carriers. The average age of an RTD bus is approximately 10.2 years.
